La partie méridionale du Togo rentre déjà dans la grande saison pluvieuse. A quoi doit-on s’attendre durant cette période ? C’est la grande inquiétude des populations surtout rurales en ces moments où la variabilité climatique est plus remarquable ? Les éclaircissements avec le directeur général de météorologie nationale, Dr Issaou Latifou.
Au niveau du Sud Togo, selon les prévisions, informe Dr Issaou Latifou, « en dehors de la maritime, toutes les autres zones accueilleront une quantité normale à excédentaire de pluies, c’est-à-dire qu’on aura assez de pluies qui vont pouvoir permettre surtout aux agriculteurs à aller faire leur culture ».
Au niveau de la région maritime, en début de la saison (mars-avril en allant vers mai), on annonce des déficits de pluies par moment. « On aura des pauses de pluies en début comme en fin de saison, des séquences sèches. Cette année, on aura des pauses de pluies un peu plus longues que la normale. Ces pauses ont des conséquences parfois néfastes sur les plantes en phase de germination comme en phase de maturation. C’est pourquoi nous invitons les populations à choisir des variétés qui résistent aux stress hydriques c’est-à-dire insuffisance d’eau dans le sol », a conseillé le climatologue Dr Issaou Latifou ce jeudi sur une radio locale.
Toutefois, les services météorologiques rassurent. « La saison sera meilleure. On aura une saison normale. Que ceux qui ont déjà préparé le terrain avec ces pluies qui sont en train d’arriver, commencent par semer. D’autres peuvent passer au sarclage. C’est pour dire aux populations rurales de se mettre déjà au travail surtout dans la maritime Nord et des plateaux où on a déjà reçu trois à quatre pluies. Dans la région ouest plateaux on va assister à un début tardif des pluies », a précisé le directeur général de la météorologie nationale.
Il est à rappeler que le Togo est subdivisé en deux zones climatiques. La zone nord est monomodale et la zone sud depuis la 8ème latitude Nord aux environs de Blitta jusqu’à la côte est une zone climatique bimodale (deux saisons de pluies et deux saisons sèches).
