L’ancien président ivoirien, Laurent Gbagbo a pris son vol ce jeudi 17 juin 2021 de Bruxelles pour Abidjan. Son avion a décollé à 11h47.
Près de dix ans après son extradition à La Haye où il a été acquitté des charges qui pesaient contre lui en mars 2021, les pieds de Laurent Gbagbo se poseront de nouveau sur le sol ivoirien ce jeudi. Pour les partisans et sympathisants du Front populaire ivoirien (FPI) cette journée est comme « un jour de fête ». Si ce retour touche toute la Côte d’Ivoire, c’est Yopougon, le fief de l’ex Chef d’Etat qui est plus que mobilisé. Des bus sont mis à dispositions des militants du FPI pour se rendre à l’aéroport et accueillir en grand pompe le prédécesseur d’Alassane Ouattara. Le parti tient à éviter tous débordements au cours de cette journée. « C’est un jour de fête, pas de colère, pas de provocation. On veut du calme », a affirmé un responsable du FPI au micro de nos confrères de RFI.
Historien de formation, Laurent Gbagbo fonde le Front Populaire Ivoirien (FPI) en 1982. C’est sous son étiquette qu’il est élu président de la République le 22 octobre 2000, face au général Robert Guéï, avec 59,36 % des voix.
Il se représente en 2010 face à Alassane Ouattara, l’actuel Président de la République. Les résultats de cette élection ont créé des tensions entre les partisans des deux camps. Laurent Gbagbo sera arrêté et transféré le 30 novembre 2011 à la Cour Pénale Internationale.
